Bureau bookcase. English. Elm & Pine. Circa 1800. An imposing country bureau bookcase, with a superb original patina and also hiding a number of secret drawers on the inside.
We have seen many pieces of furniture with the same design scratched onto them using a compass, It usualy appears on the backs of doors, backboards and bottoms and sides of drawers, we believe it was done to ward off evil spirits. Click pic below for larger image.

  A very small and rare escatoise, with a lovely colour and patina, a cushion moulded secret drawer is above the fall. 60.75" Height. 21.5" Depth. 37" Width
