Antique coffers and mule chests

  Joined chest. English. Oak. Dated 1664.

Coffers of this quality are rarely available, with superbly
executed carving and wonderfull patina throughout.

Commonly known as a mule chest or dower chest this piece has a superb colour and still retains its original drawers.

Pine furniture from this period is very rare, due to the softwood not being able to withstand woodworm infestation and damp. This coffer was removed from Sandwich church in Kent when it closed, and has a date of 1743 carved into the top with various initials.
